It is the time to go back to school after a long vacation filled with fun and adventure — stories and food. As always, we are going to get the jitters and our eyes will not feel like opening. However, the break must have made you realize that you need to be better than before.

You have to improve your handwriting, and probably work harder in math. It is time to change your attitude towards school routine.

Do you want to become A+ student? Do you want to be the best student in your school?

What do you thing are the qualities of a good student and how to become one?

• A good student always has a learning attitude. They are eager to learn new things even if the new subjects are not interesting. Do you think you might be able to adopt this attitude?

• Work not just hard, but smart! It is the key to success. Organize your subjects and give more time to the subject that you find difficult. During your free time in school, work on that subject with your friends and teachers.

• Pay attention and stay focus in the classroom. When a teacher is giving a lesson, take notes and if you do not understand something, raise your hand and ask questions. The more questions you ask, the smarter you will get, believe it or not!

• Avoid distractions by keeping your ears and eyes open only for the teacher. There might be a friend who needs to tell you a joke or gossip. Let them know that chitchats are for recess only.

• Be a good reader. Today’s reader is tomorrow’s leader. Read as much as you can, and write down what you find interesting. Ability to read carefully, to write effectively, to speak fluently, and to communicate clearly are the key areas in which a student must be proficient. Having a good command in all these areas will make you to shine in the class.

• Study every night, even if there is no test the next day. However, when there is a test start studying at least a few days before it. Make a schedule for homework and test prep, and follow it.

• Take study breaks and avoid long hours of book facing. It will confuse your mind. For example: one 15-minute break every 2 hours. Just take a break, then refocus on your work and you will succeed.

• Understand the concepts instead of memorizing them. It will not just help you pass the test, but to actually understand the application of classroom learning. Ask yourself, “Do I really understand what's going on here?" and find the answer honestly.

• In addition to working towards good grades, get involved in an extracurricular activity, such as sports, art, or debate. Participate in class discussions and respectful debates with other students.
